Teaching Philosophy

  Maria Montessori observed that young children strive to gain control of their lives and their environment. This natural desire is the basis of their desire to learn. But what is the best way to teach children that addresses this desire?
   At the Right Place For KIDS, we have formulated a curriculum based on the scientific method:

1. Children are taught to observe carefully and in detail.
2. The group as a whole discusses explanatory theories--how do we account for what we see.
3. Hypothesis testing--we do experiments to validate or disprove our theories.

  Many materials have been developed for this program that are consistent with the Montessori philosophy of independent, individual student centered learning. In addition, the classroom has a full collection of traditional and custom-made Montessori materials for mathematics, language, life science and geographical/geological learning.
